Both the NS26C and NS30C have a large table in the saloon. Great table, storage for wine bottles or whatever, fold out wings, thumb screws to hold it in place. The issue is BIG. It dominates the saloon. After several false starts and iterations, I finally have a table that works and leaves the saloon open.
This table is attached to the hanging locker door. When not in use, it is folded up and leaves the saloon open. When down, it seats two, with an optional extension to seat four. To use the table, lift the leg and ensure that the strut is engaged, turn the catch at the top, lower the table then fold out the wings. Takes about five seconds and can be doe with one hand. When finished using the table, fold in the wings, swing the table up into the catch, fold in the leg. Done.
A rectangular wood bar is attached to the door, screwed through the door’s internal frame. A piano hinge is attached to the bar and the table. Above the table, screwed through the door, is wood holding the catch. The leg is screwed to the underside of the door with a hinge, a magnet embedded in the door attracts a screw in the leg, keeping the leg from moving as the boat bounces around. If you really want to, have two legs in case someone leans on the table to stand up, however watch there is room to get feet in. Because the table covers the door handle, replace it with a ball catch and grab handle (black in pics below). Full plans in PDF format are available here.
Update: 1) After the table came down once in rough waters, a short line loop has been added to go around the catch. The problem was the cheap catch. 2) The hinges for the wings have been replaced by flat hinges.
