Nonsuch 30 Sail Cover

Sail cover on Corvus

The sail cover on our Nonsuch 30 Classic “Corvus” is custom made by Marc B. (sailmaker) and me, Alan (assistant). A minimalist pencil style cover, it is easy to open and close with minimal windage.

The material is Coast Guard from Tridon Distributors (solution-dyed acrylic marine exterior grade canvas, similar to Sunbrella), with polyester mesh underneath for drainage, polyester patch reinforcements as needed.

At the front of the mast, a YKK #10 zipper closes the two sides, top to bottom. The long top zipper starts at the mast, a polyester flap sewn onto the cover over the sail peak protects the sail cover from the metal. Velcro straps tighten the cover onto the mast and take strain off the zippers.

A zipper along the flat top closes the cover: a long YKK #10 zipper starts at the mast and ends near the clew. A second shorter YKK #10 starts at the clew and goes forward about 1.5m. The gap between the two zippers is for the reef lines.

PVC pipes in pockets on both sides hold it straight. The breaks in the pockets align with the adjustable lazy jacks and are flush with the top to allow drainage. The PVC pipes are in sections, they are inserted from the front with velcro closure to hold them in place.

The forward end has rings inside for shock cord around the mast. The shock cord is required because of the choker pulling the wishbone aft.

The clew end has rings inside with grommets to hold it up when the sail is up, otherwise the end would hang down without the sail.

DISCLAIMER This worked for me but may not work for you. Boats can differ, modifications may have been made, you may a Friday afternoon boat (when everyone just wants to go home). Measure and check then measure again before even thinking of using this sail cover.
